With this issue, Revista Médica de Chile will have been published uninterruptedly, for 130 years. Shaken by the loss of Germany's colonies in Africa, the difficulties faced due to post-war economy, and the restrictions imposed by the armistice, the Germans sought to restore their cultural and scientific prestige through such initiative. This article presents the development of the journals " Revista Médica de Hamburgo" and " Revista Médica Germano-Ibero-Americana," which were created to promote and disseminate the German science among the medical community in Latin America and Spain between the two World Wars.

This document consists of the eight issues of the series " Revista Investigacion Educativa" published during the 4-year period 1992-1995. Revista Investigacion Educativa, 1992-1995.ĮRIC Educational Resources Information Center This retrospective analysis evidences that Biomedical Sciences, particularly those related to Tropical Medicine, were a fundamental component during the first years of Revista de BiologÃa Tropical, and have maintained a significant presence in the scientific output of this journal, the most relevant scientific publication in biological sciences in Central America. In spite of the predominance of Parasitology as the main biomedical subject, the last decades have witnessed the emergence of new areas of interest in the Revista, such as Pharmacology of natural products, Toxinology, especially related to snake venoms, and Human Genetics. The relative weight of Biomedicine in the following decades diminished, due to the outstanding increment in publications in Biological Sciences however, the absolute number of contributions in Biomedical Sciences remained constant throughout the last decades, with around 80 contributions per decade. Biomedical Sciences, particularly Parasitology and Microbiology, constituted the predominant subject in the Revista during the first decade, reflecting the intense research environment at the School of Microbiology of the University of Costa Rica and at Hospital San Juan de Dios. The contributions published in Revista de BiologÃa Tropical in the area of Biomedical Sciences are reviewed in terms of number of contributions and scope of research subjects. Its contribution to the Chilean scientific community dedicated to Medicine appears to be of central value. Revista Médica de Chile increased notoriously its performance. However, Argentina, Chile and México maintain a plateau during the last decade. In the Latin American region, Brazil relevantly increased its scientific output. The top ten articles published by Revista Médica de Chile and the institutions with the higher contribution to the journal, were identified using citations. According to the h-index, Revista Médica de Chile ranks 4 among the 36 journals indexed and published by Argentina, Brazil, Chile and México. We also report the h-index of the journal, which infers quality linked to the quantity of the output. Thomson's-ISI Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports QCR) were consulted for performance indicators of Revista Médica de Chile and Latin American journals whose subject is General and Internal Medicine.
